Life Recovery Program Graduates
Victor Valley Rescue Mission is proud to announce the graduation of three men from the Life Recovery Program. Jeff Popejoy, Joseph Tapia, and Ramon Bueno. Here are their stories....
Joseph Tapia - My teachers in school thought I was a “problem child.” In those days, teachers could give spankings, so I was spanked a lot in school. No one realized that my problems had nothing to do with academics. When I was twelve, my father died behind a motel in Barstow; beaten, stabbed, and defiant. I wasn’t even sad; I was relieved that this man who had tormented me for so long was gone.

Ramon Bueno - My story began five years ago on the streets of Los Angeles. I was only 18 when I began to experiment with crack cocaine, alcohol, marijuana, and methamphetamines. Soon after, these substances began to control my life and I found myself homeless and lifeless for three years.

Jeff Popejoy - I had been using drugs and alcohol since I was 16 years old. My life was one of great conflict and darkness. I was so deep into my addiction that I lied to and stole from loved ones to support my habit. This also led to many interactions with law enforcement, including six DUI arrests. My health was negatively affected by this lifestyle. I was in a coma twice from drug overdoses.
